PasTeX 1.4 (Lite version) February 1996
----------
This is a "small" version of PasTeX from the CD-ROM »Meating Pearls III«.
It's fully functional, it has all binaries, Metafont and most macros (which
are called "inputs" from now on).
I made the following modifications:
- changed everything due to the file "texfm-fix.lha"
This archiv has some fixed files for the CD-ROM version
- included text "BUGLIST.TXT"
This file describes the bugs in the CD-ROM version and gives hints how to
solve them. Most things are already changed in this Lite version. So read
it for information.
These two files are available from
http://www.
Further changes:
- changed installer script
I commented out some lines which gave the option to install the fonts from
CD. Every change is marked with a line ";LITE version:". So you can restore
the original script by remove the appropriate comments and restore the
changes described. The installer script still may give you the choice to
install some fonts, but it will result in an empty fonts directory.
- left out all fonts
They are not necessary, because Metafont will created them for you
(automatically).
- left out the inputs for LaTeX209
It's time to make the step forward to LaTeX2e. So you don't need them. (The
installer script may give you the choice to install them, but it will result
in an empty inputs/latex209 directory!)
- left out the sources
To keep this archiv "small", I left them out. You can get them (and every-
thing else from the CD-ROM) from the ftp server in Wuerzburg (see ftp
address below).
- added all directories, the installer script needs
To prevent the script quitting with an error, I added every directories it
needs. Therefore, there are some empty directories in the archiv. (e.g. the
source and the fonts directory) BUT DON'T REMOVE THEM! Metafont will store
the created fonts in the fonts directory!
- renamed files
tex.cnf to tex-latex209.cnf
tex-latex2e.cnf to tex.cf
bigtex.cnf to bigtex-latex209.cnf
bigtex-latex2e.cnf to bigtex.cnf
Because this Lite version lacks the LaTeX209 inputs, it doesn't make sense
to use the old TEXINPUTS search path.
- added a directory called "Lite_Version"
Here you can find the file BUGLIST.TXT. I also added a Shell-Icon which you
can copy to TeX:texmf/ after installation. You then also have to copy the
file "init_TeX" to TeX:texmf/. This will make every necessary assigns,
setenvs, paths needed. Therefore you can remove the additional lines in the
User-Startup made by the installer script. Just leave the assign
assign TEX: <your path>/texmf
in it! (Because the init_TeX needs it!) This results in a single assign (for
TEX:) in your User-Startup and an easy startup by double clicking the Shell
icon in your texmf dir.

For further information, read the other docs in this TeX package.

Now, it's time to install the beast!
Harddisc space needed:
----------------------
this archiv: 10 MB (can be deleted after extraction)
archiv extracted: 26 MB (can be deleted after installation)
installation (texmf): 15-26 MB (me: 17 MB)
fonts: x MB (me: 5 MB)
----------------------------------------------
=> TeX: 20-x MB (me: 22 MB)
Of course, the space can grow up from time to time, when you preview/print
a document with new fonts. I think, 30 MB is enough for a quite good TeX
package.
Just double click the icon "Install.HD" and follow the instructions. (And be
sure that RexxMast is running in the background; otherwise, the automatic
font creation won't work!)
Happy TeX'ing!
Martin :-)
